Substrate Enhancement
Laminating
Bullet-Resistant Multilayer WindowsOur laminated windows are made by sandwiching one or more layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) between pieces of polycarbonate, then curing the materials with varying degrees of heat and pressure. This PVB layer is what allows the window to absorb energy during an impact.
Hard Coating
Application-Specific Optical CoatingsWe apply high abrasion, scratch & wear resistant coatings, anti-fog coatings, anti-static coatings, anti-glare coatings, anti-weatherable coatings, anti-reflective coatings, anti-fingerprint coatings & chemical resistant coatings.
Screen Printing
Custom Blackout (Frit) PatternsWe offer virtually unlimited screen printed frit patterns on sheets up to 5' by 12' in size. Our inks come in a variety of colors and adhere to most substrates, including those with silicone-based hard coats.
Window Fabricating
Drape Forming
Complex Shapes With Little DistortionOur proprietary forming processes allow us to deliver products of all sizes and shapes, ranging from small helmet face shields to massive utility vehicle windshields. Five on-site ovens allow us to meet high volume requirements within tight time frames.
CNC Machining
Superior Edge Quality, QuicklyWe've invested in multiple large-format 3, 5, and 6-axis CNC machines to meet tight tolerances in short time frames. Furthermore, our ability to design and build tooling in-house further reduces lead-times and costs to our customers.
Etching
Custom Window EngravingFive Star has the expertise to give your windows custom markings using state-of-the-art laser etching technology as well as CNC routing. Custom logos/branding, VIN, and certification labels are all possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Polycarbonate is a durable, lightweight thermoplastic with up to 250 times the impact resistance of glass at roughly half the weight. That impact advantage is why it is used in applications that demand both durability and reduced weight, from heavy equipment to defense glazing.
-
Polycarbonate windows are highly resistant to impact, chemicals, and extreme weather, which makes them well suited to harsh industrial and heavy-equipment environments. Their light weight also makes installation and handling easier than glass, reducing both labor and the risk of breakage during service.
-
Uncoated polycarbonate is softer than glass and can scratch, which is why hard coatings matter. Five Star's Fusionite™ hard-coat is engineered for abrasion resistance, with Taber abrasion results of less than 2% haze, so coated windows hold up to repeated cleaning, weathering, and field use over a long service life.
-
Common options include anti-fog, anti-scratch (hard coat), UV-resistant, anti-static, anti-glare, anti-reflective, and chemical-resistant treatments. The right coating depends on the application; coatings are selected to match the window's operating environment and performance requirements.
-
For impact-driven applications, polycarbonate is the stronger choice. It offers up to 250 times the impact resistance of glass while weighing roughly half as much. Five Star windows add Fusionite™ hard-coat protection for scratch and weather resistance, combining the impact advantage of polycarbonate with the surface durability buyers expect from glass.
-
Cost depends on size, shape complexity, coatings, certification requirements, and order volume, so pricing is quoted per program rather than per unit. The best way to get an accurate figure is to share your application and target volume; OEM programs at production scale typically achieve a lower per-unit cost than one-off parts.
-
Yes. Custom prototypes are produced to your project specifications, typically delivered within two weeks of an initial consultation and CAD file submission, so you can validate fit and performance before committing to production.
-
Polycarbonate windows are used across automotive, motorsports and racing, heavy equipment and agriculture, mass transit, aerospace, and defense — anywhere impact resistance, optical clarity, and durability are critical.
-
The process begins with an initial consultation, followed by an NDA and CAD file submission. From there, the design and prototype phase validates the part before moving into full production.
